A.D. McLennan was born in Melbourne, Victoria, on January 19, 1938, which he thinks may be the most interesting thing we can say about the author of a book on T&NO history. He later worked for the Australian government and visited the United States in the course of duty.
But interest in Southern Pacific dates from an early age and explains the focus on the ''then'' rather than ''now'' of writing about railroads. This has matured into book form in recent years, preceded by about 20 magazine articles on SP history that emphasize train operations, a number of them published in the Southern Pacĩc Historical & Technical Society magazine Trainline.
He resides in Toowong, a suburb of Brisbane, Queensland, and is at work on further publications relating to Southern Pacific.
