The author is a 1986 graduate of Rutgers University with a B.A. in History. He has been employed by American Railcar Leasing (formerly ACF Industries) since 1991 and is currently District Sales Manager at the Eastern District Sales Office in Saddle Brook, New Jersey.

He has long been interested in railroads and their histories, and is an avid photographer of the contemporary railroad scene; his photography has appeared in books, calendars, railroad industry brochures, and annual reports, as well as in national railroad and model railroad magazines. Ed has also published several freight car-related articles in magazines.

Ed has now done five books, American Car & Foundry, 1899-1999, The Magor Car Corporation, The Gregg Car Company, Ltd., and Tank Cars from American Car & Foundry, 1865-1955. His newest work is a book about another freight car builder, Pullman-Standard Freight Cars, 1900-1960, published in 2007 by Signature Press. His newest project, co-authored with historian Richard Hendrickson, is Billboard Refrigerator Cars.

Ed has been President of the volunteer, non-profit, Maywood Station Historical Committee since its inception in June 2002. The Committee have restored the 1872-built historic New York, Susquehanna & Western train depot in Maywood, New Jersey, and operate it as a museum. The group has attained national prominence for its preservation efforts.

The author is a lifelong resident of northern New Jersey, where he lives with his wife Rosemarie and their three daughters Kristen, Kaitlyn and Kayleigh.
